When you first wrote to me, what I first read,
behold, my heart and soul and spirit stirred,
encouraged and exhorted with each word.
I saw us lovers. Yes, I saw us wed,
but I have sought your friendship out instead,
because how many times has this occurred,
and I am crushed, who courted the absurd
and wondered whither, whether, was I led?
But you felt led to write your words to me,
and I have cherished your words from your pen,
but I have dismissed this absurdity
and court you not. So many other men
would love to love and court you faithfully!
Or am I writing absurd words again?
