I pray we always shall be loving friends
no matter where we go or whom we love
and that our Father God above approve
all other love that moves toward different ends.
It is His will on which our love depends,
and by His Spirit any love must move,
so that our Savior seated high above
may glorify the love His blood defends.
We have our wants, but every one of them
is wanting only what His love can fill,
and since our very friendship dwells in Him,
and if as only friends this be His will,
let us forsake our every other whim
and rather in His love as friends be still.
