If God were hungry, why would He ask me?
He owns the cattle on a thousand hills
and tends their pastures as His Spirit wills.
But when I hunger, then He takes for me
the choicest of His herds and makes for me
a feast for laughter, yet the calves He kills
shed not what blood eternally fulfills,
atoning blood which Jesus shed for me.
For Christ was crucified on my behalf,
and since the Lord showed Abraham a ram
and promised him that neither goat nor calf,
but that He would provide Himself the Lamb,
so I shall feast with Abraham and laugh.
God asked a lamb, and Jesus said, "I am."
