The night when we are wed, the Lord shall weave
by laying on of hands the godly thread
and knit our flesh together in our bed.
The threefold cord and blessing we receive
when we are interwoven on that eve
shall consummate our vows, which once are said
shall echo when our children's children wed
if love shall be the legacy we leave.
For two shall lie together and be warm,
but how could one be warmer, all alone?
One could with fire or blanket, but that form
deprives one of a love to call one's own.
Creation and the Gospel both affirm
the blessedness of marriage God has shown.
