Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Worship
The Military Chaplain

I could have filled another chaplaincy,
but honorable is the weaponry I wield,
for I have put on armor, sword, and shield
of word and faith, and sought the ministry
of chapels garrisoned - my parish, infantry,
my parsonage, a tent pitched in the field
till prisoner and victor have been healed,
and celebrate their liberty and victory.
I have seen Satan in the living's deeds,
Christ Jesus in the faces of the slain,
whose bayonets and rifles have no creeds,
yet lest some seeking solace die in vain,
I tend the wounded as if Christ still bleeds
and charge toward the battlefield again.
