Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Courtship
The Door Is Closed

A door that once was open now is closed,
and none but God can open it again,
for I have tried to open it in vain,
yet every conversation, question posed,
and cunning innuendo I supposed
would win you won us nothing else but pain;
thus, further reason for me to abstain
from asking you again what I proposed.
The door is closed, and if I never knock
on it again as I have heretofore,
still, Jesus Christ is Shepherd of the flock,
and none but thieves and robbers came before
to steal your heart. But He, who sets the lock
and holds the key of David, is the Door.
