Lord Jesus had nowhere to lay His head
until they laid His body in the tomb.
Why, then, did I in arrogance assume
He would grant my desire till I was dead
and living hid in Christ? But I instead
had coveted thy presence in my room
to disregard thy chastity and womb,
defiling through my flesh the marriage bed.
I have repented and surrendered thee
till I be drawn to thee at His behest
so He in providence might render me
in fleshly form a shadow of His rest.
God willing, led in light, I tenderly
shall lay my head upon thy waiting breast.
