The Lord remembers how I am but dust,
and to the dust in gladness shall I cleave
because the days draw nigh my wedding eve.
Her faithfulness has caused my heart to trust
because her living leads few men to lust,
and how is it her ways can neither grieve
nor cause my wicked heart to want to leave?
She does not live as others feel they must.
May vain men scoff and gossippers opine
at her simplicity and modest dress.
Her conversation makes her face to shine
because she runs not to the same excess.
Despite their lustful longings, she is mine,
my flesh anticipating her caress.
