Beneath the secret places of the stairs,
I boldly come before the mercy seat
and lay my wife, my crown, before Your feet
so she may not be troubled in her cares
and I may not be hindered in my prayers.
She is my flesh, and I am incomplete
if I should ever spitefully entreat
or cumber her with duties unawares.
When she is sitting at Your feet, she hears
a conversation seasoned with such grace.
How can I hold her housework in arrears?
She waits on You and looks into Your face,
and when Your glory on her face appears,
Your love is evident when we embrace.
