Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Friendship
Father and Veteran

Our hopes for peace negotiated dashed,
we readied rifles, waiting for the yell.
We charged into the opened maw of hell
as offenses were raised, defenses smashed,
and mighty men of many countries clashed,
and foe and friendly fighting, fleeing, fell
by shot and shrapnel, sword and shock of shell.
We veterans now tell these tales rehashed.
By grace and mercy were we carried through
the darkened days we battled at the front.
Now hear me, son. I fought that war for you,
patrolled the point, and often bore the brunt
of fighting foreign fathers with sons, too,
so you might live in liberty, not want.
