Now we are one in flesh, but when we die,
we shall be like the angels, never wed,
and shall be wed to Jesus Christ instead.
But wed and living, let us edify
each other in God's love, for death draws nigh,
and when the books are opened, sought, and read,
our works shall be of love, or shall be dead
and burned as stubble when the fires try.
Our names are in the Book of Life above.
What else, then, than our love does God require?
Love edifies the Church, and saints thereof,
from cornerstone unto the capstone's spire.
God's fiery vengeance burns up all but love,
and love, God's love, is that consuming fire.
