Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Friendship
The First Responders

You are the last that people want to see,
but with the fall from Eden, men were cursed,
and you, though counted last, respond the first
to keep the peace, protect, and serve this need:
to bind up wounds as if Christ's wounds still bleed.
And though you see the sorrows of the worst,
yet you respond with training well-rehearsed
to service every sinner, even me.
The called are many, but you chosen few
are quick to hear and come, and standing fast,
now stand so we may thank and honor you,
although we still may want to call you last
after this day. God save us from this, too.
We call on Christ, on Whom our cares are cast.
