Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Courtship
Her Flower Will Not Be Refused

Behold, O flower. Man exalted you,
and you were as the flower of the grass,
but man has passed on to another lass
after he plucked you, and assaulted you,
and left you withered. Tears have salted you.
But there is love and joy and peace; for this will pass,
and God will give an husband who will not trespass,
but love you where another man has faulted you.
Despise her not because her flower once was trod,
her petals torn, her stem unseemly, bruised,
and not as beautiful as when the Lord our God
created her to be one cherished, not abused,
for she is planted in good soil, precious sod,
and where her flower will not be refused.
