I shall be sad the day when you must leave,
but not so much because you will have left.
That is God's will. But many prayers I lift
are for forgiveness for what I believe
I have deprived you. How could I bereave
you so of time and prayer? Each little gift
was somehow squandered. Now you are bereft
of all but my confessions on this eve.
My time now wasted and my money spent,
how I regret the gifts I did not give.
Expressing love was always my intent,
but love, Christ's love, I did not always live.
Forgive me. Love is truly heaven sent
when you and God my sinfulness forgive.
