Be still, my heart. Be quieted and stilled,
and know that God is God and she His maid,
and in her poverty and yours she bade
you come and eat the meal the Lord has willed.
The water, not her spirit, has been chilled,
and by His hand, this table has been laid
so more than fleshly appetite is stayed.
My heart and spirit shall be warmed and filled.
A meal of herbs, a morsel of dry bread,
cold water poured into my empty cup
sustain me more than sacrifices spread
before the wicked when they sit to sup.
When she has served in love, I am well fed,
and when in love, what have I given up?
