A friend asked me to pray. I did not pray.
I comforted and counseled and complained,
but whenever came time to pray, abstained.
I wished him warmed and filled, yet day by day,
I heard his prayer requests and walked away,
and answered prayers and angels entertained
and prophecies and miracles obtained
have not moved me to pray in any way.
Give me a heart of prayer, my Friend.
I pray so little, though I talk so much.
I pray I pray as I should pray and end
my prayers as answered prayers in such
a way that when I pray, I comprehend
the comfort and the counsel of Thy touch.
