Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Courtship
Her Love Is of Christ's Love

I ask for neither flocks nor herds nor lands.
The firstfruits gathered yearly from the field
and firstlings of the flocks can neither yield
a Sacrifice acceptable nor can
be made a ransom for the life of man.
I ask, instead, a wife, but be her shield,
and cleanse my heart before she is revealed
so I may hold my bride with holy hands.
I also do not ask for any lass,
but one whose heart is set on things above,
who waits for God to bring our love to pass
so she may love me when her love is of
Christ's love, surpassing knowledge, for I ask
to wed a lass whose Lord is her first love.
