How long, O Lord, shall I be made to wait
before You shall fulfill my heart's desire
and bring me forth from this refining fire?
I enter with thanksgiving through the gate,
for You are never early, never late,
and what else does the Lord my God require
but faith to please and boldness to inquire
whom I shall love and of our wedding date?
I thank You, Lord, that You have lit the flame
and lead me through this dry and thirsty land,
for taken among women is a name
engraved upon Your heart and on Your hand
so when I wonder whence this woman came,
she came in ways I do not understand.
