Now I am one and twenty, not so old
according to the measure of a man
who is threescore and three years older than
my faintest memories of childhood rolled
in history a thousand years twice told.
And having heard the stories which could span
another century or more for this young man
as yet another thousand years unfold,
then grant me this, lest I no longer care
about your stories filling up my ears
with utter vanity and empty air.
Obey the Lord, and seek Him while He hears
so we shall have good stories we can share
when you and I are old and full of years.
