I have a friend I do not often see,
but when we meet, how joy and gladness fill
our hearts with thanks and gratefulness until
we pray and, touching anything, agree
to bind our friendship closer and thus free
our hearts to love each other in God's will
so when we go our ways, we are friends still
and shall think of each other lovingly.
So when I think of you, you are my friend
in God's eternal love, which is complete
in Jesus Christ, and it does not depend
on when, where, or how frequently we meet
since our eternal friendship cannot end,
and come time's end in glory, we shall greet.
