There is a highway by the sound and sea
which we may follow faithfully, and run,
and count the passing mileposts one by one,
and bridge the barrier, and find the key,
and leave these lands for houses heavenly
beyond the rising and the setting sun
and farther than the farthest horizon,
where we may live eternally and free.
I was an island, barrier, and end
uncharted in the darkness of the night
until I smelled the salt and felt the Wind
and crossed the bridge into the greatest Light,
the shining Son of God, the Christ, my Friend,
who is my Captain and my vessel's Wright.
