Let Him Write His Word

Open to me each old and ancient phrase.
Let me so say these sayings I have heard.
Make me to know and understand Thy Word.
Teach me to seek Thy Word all of my days.
Lead me to lift to Thee Thy Word in praise
and stir Thy Word neglected till I, stirred,
prefer Thy Word above all things preferred,
so I may know Thy will, Thy works, Thy ways.
How else shalt thou know Jesus, O my soul?
Neither in science so-called, nor in art,
but lovingly lay out this living scroll,
each jot and tittle knitted part to part,
and find therein the One who maketh whole,
and let Him write His Word upon thy heart.
