Live I or die, Lord Jesus, for Thy sake?
If I must die for Thee, then I shall die.
But do I live for Thee? Ah, Lord, not I,
because, to live for Thee, so I must take
this cross upon me, follow in Thy wake,
deny myself, and die. I do not. Why?
I do not want to live. But hear my cry
and this ashamed confession that I make.
If Thou wilt live in me, then I will live.
Thus, take my life that Thou art authoring
and finish me in faith. Ah, Lord, forgive,
and should Thou wilt I live, my offering
and sacrifice are living, which I give
in love and joy and peace and suffering.
