You say I love you not. It may be so
if I have loved with love you cannot feel,
with words without the works to make them real.
My words were true and willing, as you know,
when we were wed and witnessed we would sow
the seed of love, fulfilling our appeal,
the vows we vowed and cannot now repeal
if we love not as we loved long ago.
I pray, not mine, but His will to fulfill
the covenant I cannot disallow.
My whimsies change, but never can His will.
My passions change, but never can my vow.
One time your bridegroom, and your husband still,
I loved you then, and I shall love you now.
