So seems, my love, your hardened heart so set
against my love, of which I now repent,
because you think my love more than I meant.
But what should I repent? What is my debt?
That I have loved you more than you would let?
But whether I will laugh about, lament,
or long again the times that we have spent,
now will I leave you. Soon may you forget.
But whether you may ask me why I ache,
and whether you may ask me my advice,
whatever you may ask me, for my sake,
ask me not what I may have sacrificed.
I gave more than you wanted, so I take;
less than the loving sacrifice of Christ.
