O Lord my God, who gave the birds their flight,
whose Word can calm the tempest on the seas,
I pray Thee, send my kite a gentle breeze
so all may witness how, if but by sight,
Thy love can keep aloft my little kite.
Thy Spirit witnesses throughout the trees,
creations blown and bending without knees
so they may be a witness to Thy might.
But this my kite is made of wood and cloth,
so this I pray, a wind be sent so soft
it would not cause the seas to foam and froth
nor move men's hearts with fear as it has oft,
but that my prayer be answered, and it both
can show Thy love and keep my kite aloft.
