There is an open hill where we may bless
each other with our love, and lie, and rest
if we will hike its height, and reach its crest,
and find its very height and openness
lead us to love, and leave our loneliness
where one may stand alone, but two abreast
may love each other till the sun sets west,
and longer, if we still seek sweet redress.
I want to lead you up this open hill
because the peak, though open, rises high
enough above each house and highway till
we have been hidden from the naked eye
where we may walk, and if we want to, will
love openly beneath an open sky.
