My heart felt sick because of hope deferred,
because I did not know you, who you were,
or when divine appointment would occur.
But faith by hearing, hearing by God's Word,
and then obedience to what we heard
led us to marriage no one could deter,
for prayers of faith, like ointment, balm, and myrrh,
were lifted up until God's heart was stirred.
We prayed in faith, believing God would add,
petitioning in faith that God would yield,
the chosen one espoused to make us glad,
to be one flesh in covenant and sealed
in Jesus Christ, the balm of Gilead,
in Whom by faith our broken hearts were healed.
