What is a psonnet? Fourteen lines of verse
which chronicle the psaltery of praise
of life, of love, and of the Lord I raise.
So have I written psalms and sonnets terse
I hope the generations shall rehearse
beyond my death and in eternal ways
despite the learned objections some might phrase
about my poetry. I could do worse.
Succinct in sound and structure, sonnets seem
the vehicle most apt for my iamb.
As Shakespeare wrote, as Browning chose the scheme,
Donne's Holy Sonnets written to the Lamb,
immortal love, eternal life my theme,
may God reveal the poet that I am.
