O love, once scarlet, now as white as snow,
God pours into your vessel without price
cold waters from the melted snow and ice
as blood and water from His pierced side flow.
O love, once crimson, whitest wool you sew,
for three thin threads are folded thrice,
and you perceive as good your merchandise
as robes as white as washed in blood are so.
O love, once red as rubies, now as clear
as diamonds crystalline as snowflakes are,
so are our wedding bands when we appear,
our love, once red as embers, now a star,
for Love as red as blood is poured out here,
white as the broken alabaster jar.
