What kind of vessel was this vessel new?
I do not know because it broke apart,
my broken vessel, potsherd of a heart.
Yet if it was a bowl, what would I do
but offer you a bowl of pottage, too?
For I have offered, not my heart, but part
because my sinfulness destroyed the art
the Potter worked into the clay for you.
The Lord has broken me. My heart was hard.
But He has gathered up the shattered clay,
and living waters soften what was marred
so He may fashion me another way,
into a vessel worthy of His guard
and fitting for your love our wedding day.
