I want to love you, but I love you not,
because, to say I love you, yet not act,
is not true love. I do not love, in fact,
and have not loved in tittle or in jot
of anything I promised and forgot,
yet rather than now vow another pact
that sounds so loving, yet is so abstract,
I will - or will I, now? - accept my lot.
But though I say I will, and will I will,
I will not still. No, still, I will not do.
So leave me, not believe me, since I still
will want to love you. Yes, I will want to,
but will not. No, I will not. Not until
I want to, and I do, will I love you.
