You are invited to my wedding, friend,
although I know not when or where or whom
I wed - or if I ever will be groom -
but if my singleness should ever end
and wedding invitations I should send,
whither cathedral, whither chapel, room
is there, God willing, if I may presume
you are my friend and willing to attend.
Yet if you cannot come, still, I am blessed
to know you as my friend, if not my guest,
and long to see you, if not soon, then dressed
in wedding garments white at His request
among the multitude when Christ's confessed
attend His marriage supper manifest.
