My lips draw near to Jesus. Does my heart
draw nearer to Him than my words express?
Except I praise and worship Him, confess
my sins, and let the Holy Ghost impart
to others blessings, may I never part
my lips at all. Yet I will when I press
my lips against the lips of one I bless
without a word, without a work of art.
My lips have opened up before the Lord
to pray for this, and closed so I may fast.
Whom will I kiss, then, if I am assured?
His feet, His lips, if all my cares are cast
before His feet, and in His lips are poured
petitions for the wife I want at last.
