If I should die before we have been wed,
is it because I would not marry you?
because I do not want to carry through
the covenant I promised when I said
that I would marry you? Were you misled?
No, we will marry, though we tarry, too,
God willing, lest I also bury you,
and rather than be married, mourn the dead.
Why do we tarry, then, my love? Why wait?
The flower of your age is withering,
and I am growing old. Is it too late?
As long as we are living, we can bring
each other love and joy to consummate
if we will wear each other's wedding ring.
