Not of his people came Boaz's bride,
but one of Moab followed Naomi
from fornication and idolatry
to live wherever Mara would abide,
to worship God, to follow close beside
her husband's kinsman's maidens. Who could see
what was their coming genealogy,
the King of Jew and Gentile prophesied?
Though you were not what men highly esteemed -
for Ruth had nearer kin, yet he would not,
like Boaz, born of Rahab, have redeemed
the Moabitess, born in sin from Lot -
you are, my love, as no one else has seemed,
a woman without wrinkle, without spot.
