I offer you this offering so sweet
with candles lit to lift a fragrant smell
so all who witness it with me may swell
with songs of celebration while we meet
to break the sweetbread thankfully and eat,
and all who gather here will wish you well,
and I, I wish for you. Can you not tell?
I want to share more than this little treat.
I give the sweetened cake to you and take
that portion which you slice and give to me,
which celebrates your birth. But where is cake
to celebrate the day I want to be
with you? Which day I say not for your sake,
but if I light your candle, you will see.
